When I saw this paper I knew I wanted to try fussy cutting one edge on some type of gatefold but wasn’t sure how to get it to work. I like the effect! BUT The light in my light box went out just as I was taking these photos on deadline day…so the green gem doesn’t look like it works in the photo but it is ok in real life. I started with Genial Gems and realized they were retired so I had to switch it out. The photo above shows the card flat.
Here’s a peek at the inside where I added a touch of branch/leaves with the Water Painter like I did on the front, and I fussy cut an extra bird. The foil doesn’t really show its true color in the photo, but you get the idea!
Measurements:
- Soft Sea Foam cardstock: 5 1/2” x 8 1/2″, scored at 3″ and 7 1/4″
- SAB JA 22 Rings of Love DSP birds: fussy cut according to photo…approximately 3 1/2″ x 5 3/8″ estimated
- JD 22 Mini Splendid Day DSP leaves/foil: 2 1/4″ x 5 3/8″ or 5 1/2″ if you prefer; and scrap
- Basic white cardstock: 4″ x 5 1/4″ and scrap
- Soft Sea Foam Ribbon: 9-10″ ish
Instructions:
- I plan to post a Facebook Live video Wednesday, July 6th with details on my Create With Kelley page. (If I can figure out where the vertical flip button is after they changed it again!) If not, check back soon if you want more detailed information.
- Score cardstock and cut cardbase, cardstock pieces, banners and DSP pieces per above measurements.
- Use the branches/birds on your sheet to judge how far over to cut the right hand side of the bird DSP. (If you haven’t cut your 12″ x 12″ piece yet, I started with the bottom left corner and you can figure out from there based on the photo.)
- Use your aqua painter to add flecks/speckles onto the portion of cardstock that shows behind your birds piece if you desire. (I messed it up after I had practically finished, so I just used the aqua painter with a tiny bit of Soft Sea Foam and Soft Suede to hand draw the branch with leaves above the birds. It’s totally optional!)
- I popped up the birds DSP onto the front. You could leave a 1/8″ border around the bird DSP corner and the leaves DSP or you can go ahead and butt your corner up with the corner of the cardstock. I wanted my top bird to go almost to the top, so I judged from there where to cut card stock and the DSP.
- Adhere DSP panel to flap just on half…the other half or so will just hang out so it goes underneath the birds DSP. You’ll need to adjust the size of the birds panel or the leaves panel to make sure they overlap properly.
- Stamp sentiments in Night of Navy on the white banner and on the inside. Add an outline on the white banner with Mint Macaron Light Stampin’ Blend (or retired Dark Soft Sea Foam if you have it.)
- Fussy cut a spare bird for the inside as desired (or just use strip of leaves/foil DSP to tie in the front.)
- Add Wink of Stella to birds and use for splatter if desired.
- Add ribbons and embellishments as desired. (The Soft Succulent Opal Rounds look better in person than in the photo, but the retired Genial Gems that I started with look better in my opinion.)
