Joy to the World Paper Pumpkin – Floral Flap
Stampin’ Up!’s Paper Pumpkin monthly craft kit for October 2020 is called Joy to the World. I think this card is my favorite alternative I’ve created with the kit. This card is stepped up quite a bit from the kit instructions, so it requires some extra supplies that lots of casual or avid crafters may have on hand. It’s still fairly simple to create, and I’ll be glad to help you order the supplies you need if you don’t own them yet. I used scraps from one of the kit envelopes that I cut up for the “Peace” card in my previous post. You can make multiple cards with this design using kit contents or you can use a Designer Series Paper (DSP) like the Cherry Cobbler one from the package of Christmas paper in the Quite Curvy Variety Bundle on sale for a limited time. (Item #158396 in my online store.)
Measurements:
- Soft Sea Foam card base: 4 1/4″ x 11, scored at 5 1/2″, then cut at 3/4″ in from each side, from top down to score line, then snip off sides from the flap outward on the score line. (See photo.)
- Just Jade: 1 x 5 1/4″ (x2), and 2 5/8″ x 5 3/8″
- Whisper White: 2 5/8″ x 5 1/4″
- Envelope liner or Cherry Cobbler DSP: 1/2″ x 2 3/4″ (x2)
- Kit Gold foil banner (middle with ends cut off): 2 1/4″ x 1 3/4″ ish (original size width)
- 9″ Cherry Cobbler twine
Instructions:
- Fussy-cut off some of the large white border surrounding the kit flower if you want to make it look more realistic. Then cut off the small flower with bud from another flower cluster to use on the bottom of the greeting.
- Brush flowers with Wink of Stella and set aside to dry.
- Cut Soft Sea Foam card base at 3/4″ in from each side, from top down to score line, then snip off sides from the flap outward on the score line. (See inside photo.)
- Texture emboss Jade side strips with Wrapped in Texture dotted folder using SCEM.
- Diecut Ornamental Envelopes oval leafy pattern out of front card base flap. (See card front photo.)
- Cut 2 1/4″ section out of the middle of the gold foil banner in kit, leaving ends for another card.
- Cut off an envelope flap (or a coordinating DSP) and cut down to 1/2″ (or smaller) x 2 3/4″ strips, then adhere to top and bottom of front flap.
- Stamp greeting on small kit banner for card front and adhere with Dimensionals to the gold foil piece.
- Stamp greeting and add a diecut flower (or stamp and fill in with markers) on inside Whisper White layer.
- Adhere Jade strips to sides of card inside, leaving even border all around.
- Adhere White layer over Jade strips, centered.
- Adhere Jade large piece to the back of the Sea Foam flap so it shows through diecut front. (I found that liquid glue sponged to the back of the flap was less messy and most effective.)
- Arrange large flower and greeting as desired and mount to card base with Dimensionals.
- Adhere small flower with bud with a glue dot between the greeting layers.
- Cut apart some unused French or German greetings and used them as gold accents glued directly to the card layer tucked underneath the flowers.
- Adhere twine bow with rolled glue dot.
