My design for the Double Slider Magnet card featuring Stampin’ Up! Lily Impressions was inspired by Jan Mansor Brown’s wonderful video featuring the Stampin’ Up! Sailing Home Suite.
The moment I saw JanB’s wonderful video on YouTube, I pictured utilizing this cardmaking technique to watch a water lily glide across a pond.
I love the (now retired) SAB Lily Impressions DSP and am sad it is no longer available. Hope you earned a package or two during Sale-A-Bration!
On my versions, I reduced the sizes of JanB’s suggested cardstock pieces so I could get more cards out of the DSP I had on hand. I also did less layering on the front since my card was smaller.

Measurements:
- 5 ½” x 10 ¾” Bermuda Bay card stock, scored at 3 ¼”, 6 ⅞”, 10 ⅜”.
- 3” x 5 ½” Bermuda Bay card stock (2 pieces) for sides
- 2 ¾” tall x 5 ¼” wide DSP (2 pieces) for sides
- 3” x 4 ¾” Shaded Spruce card stock
- 2” x 4 ½” DSP for front
- Scrap of Shaded Spruce card stock for 3 lilypads
- Scrap of Grapefruit Grove for 3 lilies
- Scrap of Whisper White cardstock for greeting
- 6” pieces of Grapefruit Grove or other coordinating twine (2 pieces)
- 1 ½” x 12” strip of a clear or white plastic sack/bag (like the Stampin’ Up! Logo white sacks)
- Whisper White 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″ for inside layer.
Instructions:
- I’ll eventually do a video to show how I switched magnets to the left pullout panel instead of the right, but if you have strong magnets, I’d just watch Jan B’s video for instructions. Or you can use these below as a supplement. I still haven’t perfected my instructions. I also have a short video clip of my card opening but I don’t know how to size it down so that it will fit the parameters to post here. I’ll work on it!
- Stamp 3 sizes of water lilies in Calypso Coral on Grapefruit Grove scraps.
- Stamp 2 large and 1 small water lily on Shaded Spruce scrap.
- Diecut (or fussy cut) lilies and lilypads.
- Adhere each lily to appropriate lilypad.
- Stamp greeting in Shaded Spruce on white and punch out with Classic Label punch.
- Cut and score cardstock and DSP per “Measurements” section.
- Adhere each long DSP side piece to its Bermuda Bay card stock layer.
- Adhere shorter front DSP to its Shaded Spruce layer.
- On the large card base, use bone folder to make all edges crisp, folding all three in “valley” folds.
- With the ⅜” flap positioned at the bottom and folded upward, add tear and tape on top of the flap. (Don’t tear off backing yet.)
- Do a practice run folding the card base from the top big flap down onto the middle section, then again onto the last section, with the flap tucked inside.
- When you pick up your folded card base, the back will have a small gap between the small flap with tape on it and the middle section.
- Position the card with the gap down on the back side.
- The opposite side that’s now on top is where you’ll now adhere the front layer.
- Open the full base back up and punch centered finger notches on both sides of the cardfront (middle section) using about the top quarter of a 1” circle punch (or die or whatever you have).
- Lay the card base down with the tiny flap on the right and wrap the plastic band around the left section. Overlap about an inch and trim excess off if necessary to even up both ends of the strip where it overlaps.
- Bring the top end of the strip down about 2” or so and add Tear & Tape on the end (but don’t take backing off yet). Don’t let the tape come over the edges.
- Bring the bottom strip up to overlap the top strip, then fold end back to add two small pieces of Tear & Tape on the underside.
- Band should fit snug but not tight
- Take backing off all the pieces and bring the bottom end up, attaching the single tape strip first, then the double strip.
- Move the seam where the two pieces meet up to the top.
- Do a practice run and insert the left pullout card layer face up on top of the band and fold the full card base up so the small gap is at the bottom on the back.
- Make sure when you pull from the left that the DSP layer is facing properly.
- Punch a ⅛” hole centered on the outside (left) end of the left pullout layer, about ¼” in.
- Place Tear & Tape (2 pieces one above the other) at the top of the band and remove the backing.
- Adhere the left layer even with the top and of the base leaving about ⅛” away from the scoreline.
- Close the left panel in and lay the right pullout layer on top of it, with the DSP facing the same way as the left one.
- Close the card up again.
- Do a practice run with the right layer until it pulls out properly.
- Make sure the left pullout is in the closed position (on the other side of the flap) and add two strips of Tear & Tape to the bottom of the band. (Opposite end from the previous one.)
- Do a practice run with your magnets before adhering them since they only stick to each other one way, facing a certain direction. I stacked one magnet above the other one centered flat on the DSP with the “grain” of the magnets going the same way.
- In order to make sure the magnets on the back of the lily line up and attach properly to the ones on the layer, you’ll need to practice by stacking a magnet on top of each one on the layer to make sure they are facing the way they attract the most.
- Once you have them correct, just leave them stacked temporarily and you’ll separate them later.
- On my first try, I attached magnets to the left end of the right pullout panel, but they really weren’t strong enough that way so I later switched to putting them on the right end of the left panel instead so there were few layers. I used square ¾” magnets and attached them about ¾” from the edge. (If your magnets aren’t self adhering you can do this step earlier to let them dry.)
- Lay your water lily on top of your stacked magnets to make sure you’ll be able to attach them without showing.
- Peel the backing off the top layer of stacked magnets and attach your water lily.
- Separate the water lily from the layer magnets and set aside.
- Now, back to the left flap. Peel the backing off the strips on the band, then attach the right pull-out card face down (just like in the practice run!) lined up with the bottom of the card. (Make sure the tape doesn’t go over the edges.
- Practice pulling both sides out at the same time and make sure it slides out fairly well with the tiny flap still just tucked in over the right pullout.
- Position the water lily on top on the left hand side and see it move to the right as you open both sides. If it works properly, go ahead and take the backing off the tiny flap and seal it up.
- Pull both sides out and adhere lily embellishments per the photo.
- Punch a ⅛” hole centered on the left end of the left pullout, about ¼” in.
- Punch a ⅛” hole centered on the right side of the right pullout, about ¼” in.
- On each side, double your twine and poke the folded end down through your hole and pull the tails up through the loop.
- At least once more, lay the water lily on the left side of the card, pull both sides out at once and yell Eureka (or something similar that better suits you.) Try it several times and feel free to jump up and down!
- Run to show the card to everyone you know and let them know they could make one too if they contact me.
